Installment V of Cheating Hubby’s from True Story magazine, circa 1920.
With Tiger Woods’ “indiscretions” hitting the press, it makes one wonder: Is any man truly happy being married?
We left off last week with Carol L. and her husband, and Dr. Kinsey’s belief that husbands are unfaithful for no other reason than their interest in sexual variety, having no reflection on sex at home—infrequent or frequent, the result is the same.
In such cases, obviously, a wife has no cause to blame herself as an inadequate mate. It is not she who has failed her husband, but her husband who has failed her through his immaturity.
In the frantic search for reasons why a husband is unfaithful, there has been a remarkable reluctance to pin any blame on the man himself.
Unquestionably, much of the advice which assumes wives can help prevent or end infidelity by being better wives is sound and constructive. It is only common sense that the average husband is less likely to stray if he is thoroughly happy at home (Who is? Tiger obviously wasn’t satisfied with his blond bikini model, so can any man or woman be?), and all his needs are satisfied. But what can we say to the wife who tries hard to please him in every way, who is a perfect sexual partner—only to be repaid by infidelity? Wives should be reassured that they are not wrong or at fault in such a case.
The truth about infidelity is most often found between these two extremes. There is usually some error on both sides, both partners have failed each other, because, they are, after all, only human. The important thing is less the assignment of blame than a probing of causes of infidelity, and how we can correct them.
So how many husbands actually cheat? The results will shock you! Click below!
Though Kinsey suggests that half of all husbands have sexual intercourse with women other than their wives at some time during their marriage, he was only able to dig up evidence during his study which incriminated one man out of every three as a cheater.
In a study done by Dr. G. V. Hamilton, he found the same numbers—one third of husbands cheat. Possibly just as alarmingly, out of those that remained faithful, 72% wished they had opportunity to cheat!
—How sweet. But we all know, ladies, that opportunities have a way of presenting themselves to those that are persistent and patient—
The husband who resists temptation deserves our admiration for his decency and self-control. Most husbands recognize that merely the fact that they might like an occasional fling doesn’t entitle them to it. Any more than the desire for more money entitles a man to rob a bank.
